NICE TO MEET YOU
I'm Laneshia Boone
I am a former middle and high school math teacher who transitioned into roles as a district math coach, teacher leader in residence, and curriculum community coach. My journey has been dedicated to empowering educators with the tools, strategies, and confidence they need to make math accessible and engaging for every student. In my various roles, I have led professional learning for districts across the US before starting my own company, Bud and Bear Fruit Education, where my focus is making grade level content accessible for all learners.
From Finance to the Classroom: A Journey of Impact and Growth
I didn’t start my career in education—I started in finance. With a degree in finance and years of experience as an accounting supervisor, teaching wasn’t on my radar. But everything changed when I volunteered in my mother’s classroom. I’d spend hours facilitating small writing groups, and to my surprise, the students loved it. Together, we even published a book. Seeing their excitement and growth ignited something in me.
My mother’s administrator noticed the impact I was making and asked if I’d ever considered teaching. Truthfully, I had, but I wasn’t sure I’d be any good at it. After some inquiry, I learned about an opening for a high school math teacher, submitted my resume, interviewed, and was hired immediately.
Stepping Into the Classroom
My first three years of teaching were hard. I didn’t have a formal background in education, and I was figuring things out as I went. Honestly, I was a hot mess. But even amidst the chaos, I found ways to thrive. My students grew, I led professional learning sessions, secured grants, and was named department chair. High school was a rewarding experience, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I needed to reach students earlier in their educational journey.
Making an Impact in Middle School
When I moved to middle school, I brought with me the same determination and a willingness to learn. I asked for help, sought observations, and listened to every piece of advice I could get. The results were incredible. My grade level exceeded growth expectations, and I realized the power of being coachable and committed to growth.
This experience paved the way for me to step into leadership roles. I became a district math coach, a teacher leader in residence, and later a community coach for a curriculum company. Throughout these roles, I’ve shared classroom systems and strategies with teachers, empowering them to create environments where students thrive.
Why This Matters
I’ve dedicated the last several years of my life to ensuring that teachers and students are successful. I know firsthand how overwhelming teaching can be, but I also know the joy of watching students light up when they finally “get it.” My journey wasn’t traditional, but it’s proof that with the right mindset, tools, and support, incredible things are possible.
That’s why I created resources like Mastering Math in the Middle—to give educators the clarity, confidence, and connections they need to make math happen in their classrooms.
